Nice site. However, the 'Platz Myth' has struck again, and unfortunately continues both here and in the latest Windsock, Fokker D.VII Anthology I.
I would love to see pictures of all the V-Types series that you list, in one place. Watch out though, as I gather some of the books, particularly Weyl's mis-labels some of them.

Good profile page. . . .
However, you should have a page or two devoted to basic camouflage and markings of the various Jastas that used them. This graceful war-bird looks real sharp in the colors of J.H. von Hippel's Fokker D-VII "LUDE" of Jasta 71(whom, earlier, also flew albatros fighters with Jasta 5)but only achieved two victories in his combat career. anyway, keep'em flying Hans!

Fokker D.VII and other WWI Fokker aircraft
Since some time I be working on the reconstruction of a full of set of construction drawings for early Fokker built D.VII`s. My question now would be, whether you do have any copies of authentic Fokker Works drawings for the D.VII. I do have a collection of several authentic drawings and a complete copy of the original "Typenprüfung" (typetest) for this particular Fokker aircraft.
Up to now I have allready done drawings for things like the elevator and stabilizer, Rudder, lower wing and all the airfoils. Hard to figure out how early Fokker built D.VII`s did really look like in structural details. Especially it is a hard job to figure out in how far they differed from late Fokker,Albatros and Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke built aircraft.
May be you can help me in this matter.

Mr. Vossers; I enjoyed your site. I build remote control airplanes for a hobby and I am looking for pictures of a D VII built at the Albatros factory to use as reference. Do you have any more pictures to share? Also, does anyone care to comment about the design of the cowls on the planes? Was one design unique to each factory? Some people say yes and some say no. Thanks to your dedication to this fine airplane, it will live in the hearts of people for many years to come.

B.M.W. motor introduction and production
Dear Mr Vossers:
Congratulations on your excellent site! My specific interest is two-fold:
1. Jasta markings of D.VII equipped units (J30+).
2. Numbers and exact dates when B.M.W.-engined D.VIIs began arriving at JGI and JGII airfields (some sources say mid-June, others "summer").
Do your production sources identify airframes by engine type? Keep up the good work! I enjoyed your site very much.
Sincerely,
Vic Lauterbach
P.S. The D.VII came to my home town after the war for testing (McCook Field, Dayton, Ohio), and there's a picture of a D.VII that crash-landed in the Great Miami river framed on the wall of our local McDonald's in Vandalia near the Dayton airport!

Fokker and his engineers
Dear Mr. Vosser,
Your web page is a welcome sight for all those interested in Anthony Fokker, Reinhold Platz and their most remarkable creation, the D-VII. The German grandfather of my two friends was one of Anthony Fokker's engineers, Ernst (or Bernt?) Brassen. It was his idea to put the aerodynamic fuel tank between the landing wheels. After the war, he also followed Mr. Fokker to Holland. After the war started, he came to the United States, but couldn't work in the aircraft industry here because of his German nationality. This was a bitter experience for him, as he deeply loved his occupation, but could not practice it. Would the Fokker Heritage Trust have any records which might document by image or text Mr. Brassen's contributions to Fokker's company?
Best regards,
James Baker

D7 EN ANDERE FOKKERVLIEWGTUIGEN
Hoi Hans. Doei,Hans

Fokker D VII
My grandfather Arthur Müllenholz' family had barely moved from Köln to Indianapolis USA when the British suckered the USA into the Great War. He was enlisted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (52nd Engineers) and was trained to operate a searchlight so that British anti-aircraft batteries could shoot down observation and fighter aircraft in the Cambrai and Somme Offensives during nighttime operations. He noted that the Fokker D VII's were so maneuverable, that he couldn't keep the light on them. Perhaps as a German at heart, he let them go on purpose as the Brit battery to which he was attached, never brought one down. A great website Hans, keep up the good work

Fokker Parts for sale and modelers info
Very nice new site you have. Interesting discussions of technical details. Some years ago, I purchased 395,000 1910-1920 German aircraft parts. Most of these supplies are now in museums all over the world, or in flying replica aircraft.
I still have a small supply of original instruments and cokpit items. Most are in NEW condition. They are available for sale for more WWI German aircraft projects and collections and museums. For those that cannot afford them, I am always willing to trade for other aviation artifacts and early technical books. My special interest is collecting Wright Brothers material. (I also own the complete, Original archive of The Wright Comapny for entire time it was owned or run by the Wright Bros,-Also Early Curtiss and Glenn Martin archives) Looking at the interesting cockpit items is free and there are many photos which modelers can copy for their models. My plan is simple; follow the exact plans for the steel tube fuselage, use anything but wood in the wings, take every thing to two different aeronautic engineers for their advise and strength calculations and create an aerobatics capable plane that can use a modern small automobile 4-cylender engines with a prop speed reduction unit (PSRU).
Every thing about this plane will be top-notch, but very affordable and will result in the best scale WW1 plane available by far. Follow my lead as I build my plane and you should be able to construct your own fantastic plane that we all can use to do loops around the (not approved for aerobatics) Nieuports that are (just barely) flying, but that now number in the hundreds.
Email me if you are interested.

Hans,
Peter Gorman told me about this site. I am very impressed and have it bookmarked so I can return often. I am still collecting information on D.VII replicas and would like to hear from anyone out here in California who is involved with the D.VII.
Excellent website. Keep up the good work.

Fokker at Schwerin
Dear Hans,Not sure if this is a myth.Apparently my grandfather was the GeneralDirector of Fokker at Schwerin for a number of years. My grandmother insisted that many of the old Aces use to meet at their house in Schwerin. When my Granfather died in 1932,my grandmother gave a cigarette case to my father to give to Udet,a family friend. On the back of the case were about fifty names of the "Altern Adler".My father has coroborated this story. There is also a news story by a fellow named Peter Wehner corroborating these facts. However,I cannot find other corroboration for the Fokker story.Any ideas? Thanks.

thanks for the fantastic site
Dear Hans,
Thanks so much for all of the information! I am currently a senior at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USA) and have decided that in a few years (hopefully) I will be building a flying Fokker D.VII. I really enjoyed looking at all of your links and information about building one of these fabulous aircraft. If you have any advice regarding building plans (books, videos, museums, people), I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
Phil Windus

Very interesting site.
Hans,I salute you in your effort to fly a D7.I have been building and flying R/C scale aircraft for many years.I have gotten to the point that I rarly build "kits"as I prefere to research and develope my own drawings and plans myself. My last project was a Travelair 2000 at 1/6th scale.I changed the airfoil from a undercambered to a flat bottom which greatly improved the aerobatic capability of the aircraft.Very stable, relaxing plane to fly.I am currently working on a 1/8th scale Fokker D7,again I have changed the airfoil to a flat bottom configurationand will set it up with the cg moved slightly foward for stability.I want to paint as Hermann Guoring's was with olive wings red nose and white tailgroup.I would love to hear how your project is progressing, thanks for a great site!
